Members can save the SharpCharts they've created into online "folders" called ChartLists, so that they can easily called up those saved charts again later without having to recreate them again.

This in-depth tutorial walks you through saving a brand-new SharpChart in a ChartList, then making changes to the chart's settings and updating the saved chart with those settings. It also covers some more advanced options like adding a comment to the saved chart.

Tutorial: Saving a SharpChart to a ChartList

In this step-by-step tutorial, we'll save a brand-new chart to a ChartList, including adding comments for the saved chart. Then, we'll change the chart's color scheme and update the saved chart with the new settings.

Step 1: Create a New SharpChart

The first step is to create your chart in the SharpCharts Workbench. Once the chart is created, click the green Save button above the chart.

Step 2: Choose the ChartList

In the window that pops up, choose the ChartList where you want to save your new chart. A ChartList is chosen by default, but you can open the dropdown menu to select a different ChartList.

Note: If you want to save the chart to a ChartList that doesn't exist yet, please create the ChartList before saving the chart. You can do this by clicking on the ChartList dropdown above the chart on the SharpCharts Workbench, and clicking the green "Create New ChartList" button.

Step 3: Type in a Name for the New Chart

A suggested name for the new saved chart is already entered in the Chart Name field, but you can erase this and type in your own custom name for the saved chart.

Step 4: Add Comments for the New Chart (Optional)

If you'd like to add any comments about the new chart, you can do so by clicking on "Advanced Options" to expand that section, and typing your comments in the Comments field.

Step 5: Save the Chart

Once you've selected a ChartList, updated the Chart Name, and added any optional Comments, click the green Save New Chart button to save the chart.

After it is saved, you will notice that the Save button changes from green to grey, indicating that there are no unsaved changes to the chart. Also, the ChartList and Chart dropdown menus reflect the name and location of your newly saved chart.

Bonus Tutorial: Re-Saving the SharpChart After Changing Chart Settings

After saving the chart, you may decide to make changes to the chart settings at a later date. If you make any changes to the saved chart, the Save button will change from grey to green, indicating that the saved chart has not been updated with those setting changes.

Step 1: Change Settings on the Saved Chart

Make a change to the saved chart; in the example below, we have changed the color scheme for the saved chart. Notice that the ChartList and Chart dropdown menus still reflect that you are viewing your saved chart, but the Save button is now green, indicating there are unsaved changes on the saved chart.

Once you've made the setting changes you want, click the green Save button above the chart.

Step 2: Save the Chart

In the window that pops up, you can make changes to the Chart Name or Comments if you would like, but it is not necessary. Click the green Save Chart button to save the chart setting changes to your saved chart.

After it is saved, you will notice that the Save button changes from green to grey once again, indicating that there are no unsaved changes to the chart.
