How to Delete a Saved Chart from a ChartList

From time to time, you may want to delete saved charts in your ChartLists. Edit View is the primary tool we use for adding and deleting charts from a list, especially if you want to act on multiple charts at once.

But there are also situations where you want to delete a chart while you are viewing it. For example, if you are reviewing a list of securities on your watchlist, and one of them seems like it is no longer a good investment opportunity, it is more convenient to delete it right from the ChartList View, rather than switching over to Edit View.

This in-depth tutorial takes you step-by-step through deleting single or multiple saved charts from a ChartList using Edit View, and also takes a brief look at all the places in ChartList views and the SharpCharts Workbench where you can quickly and easily delete a single chart.

Tutorial: Deleting Charts from a ChartList in Edit View

In this step-by-step tutorial, we'll delete a single chart from a ChartList in Edit View, then we will delete multiple charts at once using Edit View. A bonus section at the end of the tutorial will introduce you to multiple other ways to delete a single saved chart while using other tools on our site.

Step 1: Open the ChartList in Edit View

To start, you'll need to open your ChartList in “Edit” mode. Go to the “Your ChartLists” section of Your Dashboard, then select “Edit List” from the “View As” dropdown next to the ChartList containing the charts you want to delete.

Step 2: Click the Actions Menu Next to a Chart's Name

To delete a single saved chart from the ChartList, click the Actions menu next to the chart you want to delete, and choose Delete Chart from the menu.

Step 3: Confirm the Deletion

A message will pop up asking you to confirm that you want to delete that chart. Click the red "Delete Chart" button to confirm. If you decide you don't want to delete the chart, you can click the X in the top right corner to close the popup without deleting the chart.

Step 4: Select Multiple Charts for Deletion

While the previous steps are fine if you want to delete a single chart, there is a faster method if you want to delete multiple charts at once.

To use this method, click in the checkbox for each chart that you want to delete.

Step 5: Click the Red Delete Button

Once you have selected all the chart you wish to delete, click the red Delete button (with a trash can icon) above the list of charts.

Step 6: Confirm the Deletion

A message will pop up asking you to confirm that you want to delete those chart. Click the red "Delete Charts" button to confirm. If you decide you don't want to delete the charts, you can click the X in the top right corner to close the popup without deleting the chart.

Additional Methods for Deleting a Single Saved Chart from a ChartList

The interactive demo and tutorial above focus on deleting charts from Edit View, but StockCharts also offers multiple other ways to delete a single chart while using other tools on the site.

Using the Delete Button on the SharpCharts Workbench

While you have the saved chart loaded in the SharpCharts Workbench, click the Delete icon above the chart. You will be prompted to confirm the deletion.

Using the ChartList Library on the SharpCharts Workbench

Open the ChartList Library panel on the SharpCharts Workbench, and select the list you want to delete from in the Select Library menu. Mouse over the chart you want to delete and click the red trash can icon that appears. You will be prompted to confirm the chart's deletion.

Using the Actions Menu on ChartList or ChartBook View

While you have the ChartList loaded in either ChartList or ChartBook View, open the Actions menu for the chart you want to delete, and choose Delete from the menu. You will be prompted to confirm the chart's deletion.

Using the Red Trash Can Icon on ChartList or ChartBook View

While you have the ChartList loaded in either ChartList or ChartBook View, mouse over the chart you want to delete, and click the red trash can icon that appears at the top right corner of the chart.

CAUTION! Using this method, you will NOT be prompted to confirm the deletion. The chart will be deleted as soon as you click the icon, and the action cannot be undone.

Using the Red Trash Can Icon on CandleGlance View

While you have the ChartList loaded in CandleGlance View, mouse over the chart you want to delete, and click the red trash can icon that appears at the top right corner of the chart.

CAUTION! Using this method, you will NOT be prompted to confirm the deletion. The chart will be deleted as soon as you click the icon, and the action cannot be undone.
