# MarketCarpet View

MarketCarpet View lets you see “at-a-glance” what all the securities on your ChartList are doing. Individual stocks or other securities are represented as colored squares on the carpet. By default, the squares are colored on a red-to-green spectrum with dark green securities performing the best and dark red securities performing the worst. In this way, MarketCarpets can show a lot of information in a small area.

A sidebar on the right side of the carpet displays the best and worst performers from your ChartList and allows you to view the performance of a specific symbol on a line chart.

## Accessing MarketCarpet View

From Your Dashboard, select **MarketCarpet** from the **View As** dropdown next to the ChartList you wish to view. Alternatively, you can switch to MarketCarpet format from other ChartList formats, such as Summary View, Gallery View, or CandleGlance View. To do so, select **MarketCarpet** from the **View List As** dropdown.

Once in MarketCarpet View, you can use the Select List dropdown menu above the carpet to choose a different ChartList to display.

### Getting Information from the Carpet

The MarketCarpet has one square for each chart in your ChartList. By default, the squares are colored on a red-to-green spectrum with dark green securities performing the best and dark red securities performing the worst.

You can hover your mouse over a square on the carpet to see information about that symbol, including which company it represents, its current data value, a minichart of the symbol, and more. Double-click on a square to launch a Symbol Summary for that symbol.

MarketCarpets are often about finding outliers - the dark red and dark green squares. Use the table to the right of the carpet to find the 'outlier" symbols at the top or bottom of the list.

## Customizing MarketCarpet View

### Changing the Carpet's Technical Indicator

By default, MarketCarpets use price performance data to color their squares. Using the **Measurements** dropdown menu above the carpet, you can choose from many technical indicators, including:

* **Performance:** The percentage change in closing price during the selected date range
* **Up Days-Down Days:** A general breadth measurement
* **SCTR:** The StockCharts Technical Rank rating
* **RSI:** Welles Wilder's popular momentum indicator
* **PPO:** A percentage version of the popular MACD momentum indicator
* A**roon Oscillator:** A measure of a stock's trend
* **Bollinger Band Width:** A measure of volatility
* **Bollinger Band Position:** A measure of a stock's variation from its mean
* **StochRSI:** A more sensitive version of the RSI
* **Full Stochastics:** Another popular momentum indicator

You can find more information about these indicators in the [Technical Indicators section of ChartSchool](https://app.gitbook.com/s/ERtrZrZOhufFzk6ZQO4B/table-of-contents/technical-indicators-and-overlays/technical-indicators).

### Changing the Timeframe

By default, the measurement you choose in the Measurements dropdown menu will be calculated based on the 1-day change in price or indicator value.

To change the timeframe used for those calculations, use the **Color By** menu above the carpet, which offers a number of percentage timeframes from one day (1D) to one year (1Y). If you are measuring technical indicators, you can also choose to display the latest value instead of the percent change.

### Other Carpet Options

In addition to the indicator to measure and the timeframe to use for the calculations, the settings above the carpet allow you to change the configuration of the carpet in other ways, including:

* **Size By:** This setting switches between squares proportional to a stock's market cap, equally-sized squares, and squares based on the stock's price (useful for symbols with no market cap).
* **Color Scheme:** There are several color schemes to choose from. The default is "Red to Green".
* **Auto-Refresh:** When this box is checked, the MarketCarpet will be updated as prices change during market hours.
* **Show Symbols:** Enables/disables ticker symbol labels inside each box of the carpet.
* **Info Box on Hover and Mini Chart on Hover:** These two checkboxes determine what is shown when you hover your mouse over a square. Info box shows the security's name and percent change value. The mini-chart setting shows a small chart along with the info box. If both are unchecked, nothing is shown when you hover over the square.
* **Table:** Click this button to hide the table and maximize space in your browser window for the carpet. Click again to bring the table back.
* **Full Screen:** Click this button (to the left of the Table button) to toggle the carpet to full screen mode. Click it again to return the carpet to its original size.

## Editing the ChartList

While Edit View provides the most comprehensive set of editing tools for your ChartList, some very limited editing can be done directly from the MarketCarpet View. For example, you can add or edit notes for the entire ChartList by clicking in the ChartList Notes box at the bottom of the screen. Click the **Save** button once you've made your changes.

For more editing functionality, use the **Edit List** button at the top of the screen to load the ChartList in Edit View.

The **Delete List** and **New List** buttons can be used to delete the current ChartList and create a new ChartList, respectively.
