How To Add Ticker Symbols From Predefined Groups

Adding ticker symbols from predefined groups to a ChartList, whether existing or new, is a generally straightforward process. Follow along with these instructions to learn the specific steps for each.

For an existing ChartList, begin by opening a SharpChart and finding the ChartList dropdown, located just above the chart on the left side. This will open up a list of all your ChartLists. Hovering over each individual ChartList name, you should see a set of three icons -- an eye, a calendar, and a pencil. The pencil icon indicates the edit function, and you'll want to click that icon specifically for your desired ChartList.

You'll now be taken to a new page, with an array of buttons and menus at the top and a list of saved charts below. The first thing you'll want to do here is to click on the green "Add Symbols" button, just under the list name on the left side. This will open the Add Symbols menu, which has a set of four buttons on the top; click the one marked "From Group".

The "From Group" menu is where you'll select the specific group you want to add ticker symbols from. The top dropdown, for predefined groups, allows you to select from different indices, S&P sectors, market summary symbols, and cryptocurrency symbols. The lower dropdown, for industry groups, allows you to add symbols from different US and Canadian industries. Once you've made your selection, click the green "Add Charts" button to finish, and you should now see the ticker symbols in that group added to your ChartList.

For a new ChartList, the steps are very similar, with the addition of the steps needed to create a new ChartList. Begin by clicking the ChartList dropdown and pressing the green "NEW" button. The Create New List menu will appear, where you'll enter the List Name and then click "Create New List". Once that's done, click on the same ChartList dropdown, scroll over the name of the new ChartList, and click the pencil icon.

This should bring up a new menu, with a set of buttons at the top and a light green box at the bottom. This signifies that your ChartList is empty and in need of symbols. Click the darker green "Add Symbols" button and select "From Group" from the top of the menu that appears. As described previously, this box will give you two dropdowns where you can choose your desired predefined or industry groups. Once you've made your selection, click "Add Charts", and you will see that the symbols from that group have now been added to the ChartList.
