Adding Overlays To Indicators

Just like with price charts, SharpCharts allows you to add useful overlay features, such as moving average lines and price channels, to indicators. With the help that these overlays can provide, you'll be able to get a better understanding of the data an indicator is showing you, and how that indicator relates to the pirce data. To add an overlay to an indicator, please follow these steps.

  • Scroll down to the "Indicators" area of the SharpCharts Workbench, at the bottom of the page under (make sure "Chart Settings" is selected on the left sidebar). Click on the Indicator dropdown menu and select your desired indicator, such as ADX Line or MACD. If applicable, add parameters in the text box to the right. This will create the indicator chart underneath the price chart. (You can adjust its position with the "Position" dropdown.)

  • Next to the Indicator dropdown, you'll see a row of other dropdown menus. The furthest to the right will be "Overlay". Click it, and choose the Overlay you wish to add to your indicator. Examples include Bollinger Bands, Horizontal Line, Simple Moving Average, Exponential Moving Average, Price Channels, Rate of Change (ROC), Slope, and more.

  • If applicable, add your desired parameters in the text box to the right.

  • You should now see the overlay visible in the chart of the indicator.
