# Seasonality View

Seasonality View shows a Seasonality chart for each chart in your ChartList, one chart at a time. This feature provides a great way to quickly cycle through the charts in your ChartList and assess seasonal trends for each.

## Accessing Seasonality View <a href="#accessing_the_chartbook_view" id="accessing_the_chartbook_view"></a>

From the **Your ChartLists** page, select **Seasonality** from the **View As** dropdown next to the ChartList you wish to view. Alternatively, you can switch to Seasonality format from other ChartList formats, such as Summary, GalleryView, or CandleGlance, by selecting **Seasonality** from the **View List As** dropdown.

### Seasonality View Navigation

Use the **Select Chart** dropdown on the grey navigation bar above the chart to display a specific chart in the ChartList. The arrow buttons on either side of this dropdown allow you to cycle through the ChartList's charts quickly.

To choose a different ChartList to display, use the **Select List** dropdown above the chart. To view the ChartList in a different format, such as CandleGlance or ChartBook view, use the **View List As** dropdown at the top of the page.&#x20;

## Customizing Seasonality View

### Changing the Chart Mode

Seasonality View charts can be viewed in three modes - **Histogram**, **Separate Scale**, and **Same Scale**. Each mode gives you a slightly different view of the underlying data.&#x20;

* **Histogram** mode shows the percentage of years that the security's price has risen during that month.
* **Separate Scale** mode shows a line chart for each year, one below the other, so that you can compare the performance from year to year at a glance.&#x20;
* **Same Scale** mode is similar to an Interactive PerfChart. It plots the percentage change over time instead of price. The Same Scale mode shows one line for each year, plotted on the same chart for easy comparison.

Use the three small buttons below the chart on the left to change to a different chart mode.

### Changing the Chart's Timeframe

By default, Seasonality View charts use the latest 25 years of data available for the security. Using the slider below the chart will allow you to alter the chart's starting and/or ending years.

### Turning Years On and Off

Click any of the year buttons above the chart to hide that year's line on the chart and remove that year's data from the calculations. Click on the button again to return it to the chart.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Cool Tip:** In the two line modes, you can hover your mouse over a year button or over the line itself to highlight that year's line and fade all the others.
{% endhint %}

### Creating a "Comparison" Seasonality Chart

Enter a ticker symbol in the optional **Compare Symbol To** box below the chart and press **Go** to show how frequently the chart's main symbol outperforms the comparison symbol.

## Editing the ChartList <a href="#editing_the_chartlist" id="editing_the_chartlist"></a>

While Edit View provides the most comprehensive set of editing tools for your ChartList, some editing can be done directly from Seasonality view. For example, you can add or edit notes for the entire ChartList by clicking in the **ChartList Notes** box at the bottom of the screen. Click the **Save** button once you've made your changes.

For more editing functionality, use the **Edit List** button at the top of the screen to load the ChartList in Edit View.

The **Delete List** and **New List** buttons can be used to delete the current ChartList and create a new ChartList, respectively.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.stockcharts.com/charts-and-tools/sharpcharts/chartlists/seasonality-view.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
